Kalani High School
Where the tradewinds from the valley ...

Why should you attend The Summer's End dance?

Because it'll be magical and nostalgic.  A truly epic event.
Look at these grads from Kalani, Kaimuki, McKinley, and even from the mainland.
You can look forward to meeting people like this, who still dress like they did in high school.  Especially the guy with the bow tie!

This dance is a fund raiser?

Yes it is.  The proceeds will be split among the three host schools: Kalani, McKinley, and Roosevelt and presented to the school principals to use on projects, equipment, etc. that are not covered in their budgets.

For a direct deductible donation to the school, you can send funds directly to the respective school's 501(c)(3) account. Be sure to note that it was on behalf of The Summer's End dance efforts.

What's so different about this dance?

For one, it is a fund raiser to benefit our alma maters.  It's a joint effort by the last graduating class of the 60's from the three schools. (Blow Your Mind in 69!)  It features two currently hot bands (Wasabi and White Light) that play great oldies dance music and gives us a chance to enjoy and say aloha to one of the premier bands from the 60's and 70's ... the Calientes with Soul Pilot.  You won't be able to see them perform after this Summer's End.

Start planning now!

Don't procrastinate.  The word is out and will soon be spreading through town with four schools promoting the dance.  Contact your friends, old and new, and set up a reserved table of ten inside the ballroom now.  Each school alumni group has their allotment of tables but the proceeds will all be divided equally.  The main priority now is to get your group and get a table.

Just like the good old days!

Tuesday, April 16, 2013

Okay, it's finally coming.  The Endless Summer dance will feature the final performance of the Calientes.  They got back together to highlight for our 60th birthday bash celebration with our McKinley and Roosevelt class of '69 counterparts and once again in 2012.  They have decided to do one last performance for this fund raiser dance event that will benefit the four schools.

White Light and Wasabi are two of the more popular active oldies dance bands.  Together with Soul Pilot backing the Calientes, it will definitely be a once in a lifetime night to remember.  Last chance to reminisce the good old days when the Calientes played at dances, assemblies, proms, and night clubs.

Lots of food with our heavy pupu table (just like eating a dinner), no-host bar, door prizes, and lots of old and new friends having a great time.

They key to this is to contact your friends and family and put together a group of ten to fill a reserved table.  Make your calls now and get things moving!

These are not Las Vegas Whales ... they are just Falcons from Kalani specializing in FUN.

2013 Vegas 62nd Birthday Bash

Okay, most of us are or will be 62 this year.  That means that we could start collecting Social Security (with penalty) and that also means it is time for another Las Vegas getaway.  (It has been two years since our 60th birthday bash and it's time for another!)

Since we had a blast in 2011 and made some great new friends, we are staying with the winning combination of fellow '69 grads from Roosevelt and McKinley.  This time some of the Bulldogs from Kaimuki might be officially joining us.

REMEMBER HOW THINGS WERE THEN?

Update on the 2013 Vegas Bash:

Our KHS Reunion reps continue to meet with Roosevelt and McKinley 69 classmates to finalize plans for our 2013 Las Vegas Bash.  We could say that we are celebrating our 62nd birthdays or our 44th class reunion, but following our 2011 trip, it would be safe to assume that we are heading up to LV just to have fun.  At our last meeting we found that Kaimuki Class of 69 has also joined the planning group.  Looks like it might be another four-school event.
If you are interested, the tentative dates are:  Leaving November 13 and returning on November 18th.

In 2011 the group participated and enjoyed activities that started from the plane ride and lasted till the last night we were there.  It was a very busy schedule but everyone enjoyed.  For next year, the committee has agreed to keep the concept of joint events but will tweak them a bit.
Here is a list of what happened in 2011:
      "Ice Breaker" Breakfast
      Slot Tournament
     "Getting Acquainted" banquet
     Hospitality Suites (every night)
     "Fun" Bowling Tournament
     "Hawaii Six-0" Scavenger Hunt
     Shopping Spree
     Go cart racing
     Two Vegas Shows

Again, if you are interested contact the KHS Reunion committee and watch for more.

A joint effort is always great to see.  Imagine ... seeing Bulldogs and Tigers running next to the thunderous mass of Rough Riders, as the Falcons soar majestically high above ... away from all that dust.

Some pics from 2011's 60th birthday bash with McKinley and Roosevelt

Something to ponder

Yes, in 2013 we will all be reaching our 62nd year.  For most of us, maturity has replaced the brashness of our youth and we treasure each year that passes.  By 2016 we will be 69.  Now that's a birthday that we should consider doing some seriously celebrating!

Along with some of our '69 classmates from Roosevelt and McKinley, a handful of us Falcons enjoyed a unique 60th birthday celebration in Las Vegas.  Through specially planned group activities and a willingness to mix, we all enjoyed ourselves and made some great new friends.

Reunion representatives from all three schools have continued meeting since the trip and are planning one for 2013, our 62nd birthday bash.  The group is looking a Vegas again, so check out the tentative dates and ponder on it ...

     November 13 through 18, 2013
Kalani, McKinley, and Roosevelt HS Class of '69

More details to follow.  Okay, start pondering.
